I created this video to further understanding of the Postpartum Doula- who she is, what she does...

To hire a doula is a good investment in your peace of mind and sense of satisfaction during birth or afterwards.

Doula's have to charge you for their services.  They must.  They have costs for living and they provide care.  They are paying for their training, they are paying for their operating costs and this is no different from any other skilled professional you hire.

Doctors, Midwives, Nurses are paid by the hospitals they work for.  They are paid for their time, no matter how much work they do - and they are often over worked!- and they recieve benefits, as well as retirement contribution to their Bituach Leumi accounts.  Not so for Doulas.

Doulas are independent practitioners.  They all have to pay for bituach leumi, as well as advertising.  The doula is responsible for herself and you.

Doulas are valuable resources for other services, they are your guide to this new world you are entering in parenting.

What would yo pay to make sure you were cared for by caring, knowledgable support professionals?

What if this care made the difference between disaster and satisfaction in birth and postpartum?

With the value of the service you are recieving, what is paid out of pocket is a real bargain.

What is Achdut?  It's unity.  But better than that it's true happiness for others success, and not being jealous of what another has.

I suppose it's a religious philosophy as much as a social one.  What is supposed to be yours- will be. Rabbi Chaim Luzzatto, z'tl  said it best, and I am just paraphrasing and summarizing the concept.  Look, what cannot be yours will not be yours- even if you acquire it now, it will slip through your hands.

So in a competitive field, don't go it alone, band together- every one will be stronger because of it.  If a potential client comes to you and you don't have connection- don't forget the woman youknow who would click with this client!  You have helped immensly and you have garnered the respect of your collegue and the admiration of your community.

So- a group who has mutual respect for each other, will garner great regard for the population looking to aquire services.

This is my favorite part of what I do- telling it like it is, but with kindness and caring.  I was recently asked about how I came up with the Idea to teach a course in Postpartum Doula care...

I have been referring couPles to great birth doulas for a while now.  I have been receiving requests for help after birth... But there aren't a whole lot of women trained to do that here.  Especially those dealing with a NEW community.

The idea was formed, so I researched and wrote curriculum, and I would to teach this course. I put it together... and here we are.  Someone asked how I did it... and my answer was:

Well- that's just Binah, baby.

Binah is that intuitive wisdom that has been handed down through out the generations, from woman to woman, growing, becoming... we just forgot to tell each other for a while...
